Sainik School Nalanda was established on 12 October 2003 by the Government of India. At the time of establishment, the Defense Minister of India George Fernandes inaugurated the Sainik School Nalanda. Sainik School Nalanda was functioning under the autonomous body Sainik School Society. Sainik School Nalanda is a residential public school for boys only.

Sainik School Society manages the administration of Sainik School Nalanda. Sainik School Society is the autonomous body that comes under the Defense Ministry of India. Chief Minister or Education Minister of Bihar is a member of the Board of Governors.

Sainik School Nalanda is situated in the Nalanda Village of Nalanda District in Bihar. Sainik School Nalanda Campus is spread over 52 acres on the bank of the Panchane river. 

Sainik School Nalanda is fully residential. It has a central mess caters food to all cadets in one sitting with a capacity of over 600 pupils. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is available.

Sainik School Nalanda is affiliated with CBSE. The academic syllabus is strictly based on the latest CBSE Syllabus. The medium of Academic Education is in English only. It is a boys-only school.
