As the title of the topic “What to chose after 10th: Polytechnic or Intermediate?” suggests, we will discuss the most confusing question for class 10th passed out student. 

For all the students studying in class, 10th have many options to chose in career after passed out in matric. There are several reasons because class 10th is important for students one of the reasons being the career path needs to follow after the 10th.

Many students ask me this question like What to chose after 10th like should I do Diploma Course or +2? As I am from the education sector hence qualified to answer this critical question. 

Career Options After Intermediate

Intermediate is a General course which gives you the flexibility to do various graduation courses along with Engineering and Medical. Most of the schools and colleges accept all Class 10th passed students for enrolling in the Intermediate course. If you opt to do Intermediate after class 10th then you will have several career path to follow such as: 

  • Medical 
  • Non-medical (Engineering Degree)
  • Humanities
  • Commerce
  • Vocational Studies

Career Options After Diploma

Unlike Intermediate Courses, Diploma courses are specialized courses in a particular technical field. For most of the college offering diploma courses, you should score a minimum of 50% marks to be eligible to do diploma courses. If you chose to do diploma courses after class 10th then you will have several career path to follow such as:

Differences between Diploma Courses and Intermediate

There are subtle differences between the Diploma course and Intermediate which will help you to choose the correct decision. Below are some of the basic differences between Diploma Courses and Intermediate.

 Intermediate Course:  Diploma Course: 

 You will 2-year study for intermediate study after that you will eligible to do all the degree courses based on the selection of subjects in Intermediate. 

 You will have to undergo 3 years of mandatory diploma courses after completion of the diploma course, you will get direct entry into the second year of most of the bachelor’s degree courses (for e.g Bachelors in Technology)

 Intermediate Course will provide you a general overall experience of all the subjects that will help you to choose any stream subjects in degree. 

 Diploma in particular streams will cover all the subjects that you will be doing in degree. It provides you the foundation for further studies. 

 If you are good at academics then you should go for intermediate courses as it will provide you more options to have bright career options. Such as IIT JEE in engineering, NEET in medical, etc. 

 If you are not good at studies and do not want to study further then the diploma course will be good for you. Diploma courses provide enough practical knowledge that helps in getting a job after completing the diploma. 

 If you are not sure about what to do in career then better to do Intermediate as it will provide you 2 more years to chose the career path. 

 If you are sure about doing a particular course/career then do diploma as it will help you reach there quickly. 

 Those student’s family background is good should opt for Intermediate courses. 

 If your family background is not good and you can not afford to continue studies further then opt diploma courses. 

Benefits of Intermediate Course:

  1. During the Intermediate course, all basic subject concepts will be covered
  2. After the Intermediate course, if you have a Science stream then you can get admission to Engineering and even Navy. 
  3. You can take admission to medical courses such as MBBS after the intermediate course that is not possible in the diploma course. 
  4. Some of the diploma courses such as Paramedical courses require intermediate for eligibility. 
  5. Many Private companies make it mandatory to have an intermediate certificate for the job profile.

    Iam confusing to take which one +2or deploma and one more thing iam good in accdemics but my family background is poor
