The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is the apex body in the Teacher Education and mandated through Act of Parliament in 1993. (NCTE Act, 1993)

 Recently, the NCTE is trying to make Teacher Education programs as need-based programme, hence, initiated 4 Year-Integrated B.Ed. programme, leading to dual degree of B.A.-B.Ed. and B.Sc.-B.Ed.

 After getting degree of B.A./B.Sc./B.Com and then doing B.Ed. takes a total of 5 years of time while integrated B.A.-B.Ed./B.Sc.-B.Ed. saves one year of precious time. At the same time, students having B.A.-B.Ed./B.Sc.-B.Ed. degree are eligible to apply for any job for which the minimum qualification is graduation.

 NCTE is also trying to overhaul Teacher Education programme and wants that only interested and genuine persons should come to this profession hence, allowing candidates to decide when passing +2/intermediate level itself to opt for Teacher Education Programme. NCTE is focusing on Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) since 201.
